But no, I am not surprised that Tom Steyer dropped out. He belongs out of the Democratic presidential race. But given that he’s already spent his money and he did in fact place third in South Carolina on Saturday, I would have expected that he’s just let it ride through Super Tuesday. It’s only three days away and if he thought he was toast he didn’t need to actively campaign. Just sit it out and see what happens.
And I imagine that is a similar situation for a number of the other candidates. I expect a few more people dropping out Tuesday night or Wednesday morning.
