WI Coronavirus Plans: And Only Nine Showed Up!

Governor Tony Evers called a meeting with the state legislature to review what his administration and state health officials are planning to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in Wisconsin.

The meeting was called for by Evers as an outbreak that has killed thousands in China spreads to the U.S, raising fears among the public. DHS officials were on hand to answer questions lawmakers have about how the state is monitoring the spread of the new virus and whether sufficient plans are in place now to respond in the event of a large-scale outbreak.

And in a show of negative bipartisanship, essentially nobody from the legislature showed up…just nine our of 132 legislators bothered to make the time.

Just nine lawmakers out of 132 attended the briefing convened by Evers as the number of virus-related deaths in the U.S. rises to 11, including Assembly Speaker Robin Vos, who was the only legislative leader there.

And this is one of the few times you will see me write this: Thank you Assembly Speaker Robin Vos for taking this seriously.

By the way:

No one in Wisconsin is sick with the new coronavirus — the state’s one case has recovered — but if an outbreak makes its way to Wisconsin, Evers could declare a public health emergency that would allow him to distribute money, Department of Health Services officials told lawmakers and their staff at a briefing in the state Capitol.
