President-Elect Biden Selects Pete Buttigieg as Transportation Secretary

“Mayor Pete” was my first choice among the Democrats who vied for president in 2020, so I’m happy to see he’ll have a spot in President Joe Biden’s Cabinet.

President-elect Joe Biden has selected former South Bend, Ind., Mayor Pete Buttigieg, his former Democratic primary rival, to lead the Transportation Department, Mr. Biden said Tuesday.

Mr. Buttigieg dropped out of the race in March and endorsed Mr. Biden along with other moderate Democrats. Leading the Transportation Department, he is expected to play a prominent role in the incoming Biden administration’s push to rebuild the nation’s roads and bridges.

While Pete Buttigieg may not have an extensive portfolio of experience dealing with transportation and infrastructure, the infrastructure plan he presented as a candidate for president was impressive.

  1. Buttigieg did an awful lot of heavy lifting for Biden during the campaign…I would think he deserves a higher profile position than this. But maybe this is where he wants to be.

    1. Yeah, I know there were a lot of rumors about VA Secretary so this was a bit surprising. That being said I’m glad he got a Cabinet position.

  2. Both Biden and Buttigieg are long time Amtrak riders, perhaps we’ll see an redevelopment and expansion of a national passenger rail system. Efficient transportation and infrastructure improvements.
