According to a new report in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, both Rep. Ron Kind and Wisconsin State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski are considering running in 2022 for the United States Senate seat currently being occupied by Sen. Ron “Our Dumb Senator” Johnson. Rep. Kind is a moderate Democrat who has represented a swath of western Wisconsin since being elected to Congress in 1996, while Godlewski, a progressive, was elected to her current office in 2018.
If Kind and Godlewski do decide to run, they’d join a Democratic field that already includes Outagamie County Executive Tom Nelson, Milwaukee Bucks executive Alex Lasry, and radiologist Gillian Battino, and as the Journal Sentinel notes several other Democrats are considering runs as well. State Sen. Chris Larson, Lt. Governor Mandela Barnes, former congressional candidate Randy “Ironstache” Bryce, and Steven Olikara of the Millenial Action Project were all mentioned by the Journal Sentinel as considering runs as well.
With three candidates already announced and six other candidates rumored to be considering runs, the 2020 Democratic primary for Sen. Johnson’s seat could end up with a very crowded Democratic primary.
