State Treasurer Sarah Godlewski announces 2022 U.S. Senate candidacy

This is great news!

Taking the fight straight to Republican Ron Johnson, state Treasurer Sarah Godlewski announced Wednesday that she’s running for U.S. Senate.

Godlewski joined an increasingly crowded field of Democratic hopefuls eager to challenge Johnson, who has not yet announced if he’ll seek a third term in the U.S. Senate next year.

In a video to launch her campaign, Godlewski sought to set up a contrast with Johnson and said: “We’re … how do I put it nicely? Different.”

“Ron Johnson has spent his time covering up for Donald Trump, denying climate change and catering to the super-wealthy,” she said.

I think Sarah Godlewski will make a formidable candidate in the Democratic primary for the Senate seat currently occupied by “Our Dumb Senator” Ron Johnson, given her background and the fact that she’s the only Democrat currently running who’s won a statewide campaign for office. That being said, I expect to see several more Democrats formally announce their plans to run for the seat held by Sen. Johnson, given the fact that the seat is widely seen as being a prime candidate for Democrats to flip to their column.
