  1. This is an issue of pride, I believe. Like many political arguments, pride prevents people from ever backing down. Sides were chosen on this issue before there was much data, and the Republicans landed on the wrong side. However, I also believe that had that coin toss gone the other way we would be in the same boat with the same arguments, just told by the opposite groups of people.

    In politics, conclusions come first, then data is manipulated to confirm the conclusion, but the most important detail is that it opposes the other groups position.
