On National Coming Out Day, the Hate Keeps Growing
Today on National Coming Out Day, we see why it is so important for the GLBT community and their many straight allies to speak up against the hate spewing forth around the country.
The right has yet again decided to demonize the GLBT community with hateful statements like those from NY GOP Gubernatorial candidate Paladino in his recent statements before a Jewish group. (See Zach’s earlier post for the video clip). We also see this in the hateful comments from Mormon church leader Boyd Packer.

Repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” imminent
By a vote of 229-186, the House of Representatives voted on Friday to support a repeal of the military’s “don’t ask don’t tell” (DADT) policy that prohibits gays from serving openly in the military, while the Senate Armed Services Committee voted 16-12 in favor of that body’s version of the…
WI GOP Congressional Delegation Disrespects Military Service Voting Against DADT Repeal
The entire WI GOP congressional delegation (Ryan, Sensenbrenner, Petri) disrespected the service and lives of gay and lesbian military members who have died and the ~14,000 who have been forced out of service with their lemming-like vote against the repeal of DADT. The delegation did not see fit to follow the will of the American people where all polls indicate that a vast majority support open service by qualified gay and lesbian service members to their country. The polls also show a significant majority of the GOP to be against DADT. In their continuing quest to be the “party of no” and to represent their vocal minority of tea party, right wing constituents; our GOP representatives once again showed their true colors as being against basic civil liberties for all Americans.
Pentagon’s Latest Waste of Money – $4.4 million to survey troops on DADT
In yet another example of wasteful spending and kicking the ball down the field, it was revealed that the Pentagon has hired Westat a Maryland-based firm to survey 350,000 troops and their families on the elimination of Don’t Ask Don’t Tell according to Boston.com. The size of the sample is unprecedented for a social research survey that could easily be answered by simply talking to all of the Western nations that have dropped their anti-gay hiring practices around the world. Apparently the sample size is so large and an outside firm is being hired, in part because of the ridiculous DADT law, that would result in the firing of any soldiers who reveal that they are gay when being questioned.
Mark Neumann and Tom Coburn: two peas in an ideological pod
According to a spokesman for the gubernatorial campaign of Republican Mark Neumann, Neumann and U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn – the first public official to endorse Neumann – are “ideologically speaking, two peas in a pod.” Seeing as how Neumann and Sen. Coburn are “ideological peas in a pod,” I can’t…
