Though the Wisconsin Supreme Court race is still too close to call, I’d like to take a moment to congratulate all the victors in the 2011 spring elections.
Here in Milwaukee County, voters sent a clear, unambiguous message that they’re ready for a clear change from the policies of Scott Walker, having elected Chris Abele to serve as Milwaukee County Executive with 60% of the vote. Though time will tell if Abele can put Milwaukee County back on the right track, I’m confident he’ll serve the citizens of Milwaukee County well in his new role.
I’d also like to congratulate my good friend Jason Haas, who defeated his opponent decisively to fill out the remainder of Chris Larson’s term as Milwaukee County Supervisor for the 14th supervisory district. Jason is a good man who cares deeply about his community, and I know he’ll do a great job in his new role.
And finally, I’d like to congratulate Meagan Holman and Pedro Colon. Though I didn’t cover their races much (and what little I did cover wasn’t flattering in Colon’s case) each deserve congratulations for their victories.
No matter the outcome of the Wisconsin Supreme Court race, tonight was a great night for progressives in Milwaukee County, and if JoAnne Kloppenburg can pull ahead in her race, the night will be all the better.
Agreed – congratulations to all winners, but especially the newbies like Jason, Eyon, Meagan, Mark, and Abele. Excited to see the fresh energy they’ll bring. Don’t envy the tasks ahead of them, but Milwaukee’s best days are ahead. A great night for a great city!
Not to beat a dead horse here, but my thought as I hit the sack with Kloppenburg down 176 votes: could Colon’s endorsement have made a difference? Not likely, as the evidence points to it possibly having the effect of siphoning votes from himself, but…still.
I think Colon’s endorsement of Prosser did make a difference, and I’ll be digging into the ward by ward results once they’re available to see if I’m right.
Will be curious to see what you come up with.
I’m just waiting for Milwaukee County to update their website with yesterday’s ward by ward results….gah.
At the risk of coming off as doing our pal Kowalski’s bidding, I’d also be remiss to not mention Ald. Kristen Wilhelm’s overwhelming victory in my old stomping grounds of Franklin, especially after her nail-biter the first time around. Truly one of the most honest, hardworking, reasonable-yet-tenacious-yet-humble electeds in the area. There may be hope for that burg yet, Greg!
Yeah, Kristen’s victory was pretty decisive, and I’m betting her victory and Steve Taylor’s victory are making heads pop all over Franklin.
I would have paid to see the look on Kevin Fischer’s face when he found out Taylor and Wilhelm both won so decisively.
I concur and offer up my congratulations to the winners. I also concur to your other post regarding manners on the blog. I am guilty as charged. I will adopt a more civil tone from now on. Thanks for the reminder. 🙂
