Republican State Sen. Mary Lazich to retire

This is not a loss at all…

Mary Lazich, the first woman to be chosen by her peers as state Senate president, announced Monday she would not seek re-election.

Lazich (R-New Berlin), 64, was first elected to the Assembly in 1992 and to the Senate in an April 1998 special election and in her tenure pushed for conservative priorities, including opposition to abortion and the state’s voter ID law.

Mary Lazich’s decision not to seek reelection is a win for the reasonable, rational citizens of her district who’ve tired of a Republican legislative agenda that has absolutely ruined Wisconsin for anyone other than big businesses and the wealthy.
