What’s wrong with this picture?
Now I don’t see anything wrong with that picture, but apparently some conservatives do. From the October 15 edition of WABC Radio’s Bob Grant Show comes this gem (in reference to the photo above):
GRANT: Let me ask you this question, since you are aware of patriotic symbols. Maybe you don’t know the answer. I’ll be frank. I don’t know the answer to this one, but what is that flag that Obama’s been standing in front of that looks like an American flag, but instead of having the field of 50 stars representing the 50 states, there’s a circle? Would someone please tell me what that is? Is the circle —
CALLER: Well, I thought it was our new flag.
GRANT: — the “O” for Obama? Is that what it is?
CALLER: I thought it was our new flag. I thought we now instituted a new one under Obama, because we’re going to change everything, and none of it is gonna be positive. And do people’s mindset that Palin would be any kind of an adverse person around nuclear weapons, when you have somebody who has absolute deceived everybody from his onset of his life —
GRANT: All right, Sue. I want to thank you very much for your call. It’s a pleasure to hear from someone who’s paying attention to what’s going on out there.
But really folks, did you notice Obama is not content with just having several American flags, plain old American flags with the 50 states represented by 50 stars? He has the “O” flag. And that’s what that “O” is. That’s what that “O” is. Just like he did with the plane he was using. He had the flag painted over, and the “O” for Obama. Now, these are symptom — these things are symptomatic of a person who would like to be a potentate — a dictator. And I really see this in this man.
I think it’s safe to say some conservatives are officially unhinged.
Yeaaaaaaah, that’s the Ohio flag, mmmkay?

I don’t see why you must lump all conservatives in with a group of ignorant people. There are those types on both sides. They are just like the people who will forward a virus or spam email because is says “foward to everyone in your address book,” because they are just plain stupid and go along with everyone without thinking for themselves.
Now, if any person in their “right” mind would stop and think, just THINK for one full minute, I’m sure they could reasonably come to the conclusion that even Barack Obama would not be foolish enough to make a new flag to represent the 50 states. (he’d make one to represent 57! – just kidding : )
Janet, you’ll notice I made a point to say “some conservatives” in my blog entry. I know there are some very rational, very well-grounded conservatives out there, you being among those.
As you point out, Janet, there are plenty who will repeat the 57 states remark and firmly believe that Obama thinks there are 57 states. Why is that?

Ha, John…I don’t know. Do you believe Obama was exhausted when he said there were 57 states? Or do you believe he thinks there were 57 states? I don’t believe anyone really believes he believes there are 57 states. I don’t know if he knows there are 57 ingredients in Heinz 57 though, do you? He probably has that confused with the states. Are you playing with me, John? Because I’ve only got one minute and 57 seconds are…times up…

The ‘extra’ flag is the state flag of OHIO, where Obama was speaking, thus the large “O” on the flag.
FYI…Obama, just a John McCain has his election symbol on the tail of his leased plane.
BOTH have an American flag on the body of their planes.

I wonder what the reaction would have been if Obama had been standing in front of the Christian Flag. Yes, such one exists. I don’t know if its more likely that right wing Christians pledge to over their liberal counterparts, but I can imagine that’s likely the case.
Any thoughts?
