Earlier today, State Rep. Mark Honadel (R-Gogebic Taconite) announced he will be resigning his seat in the State Assembly in mid-September to “pursue an opportunity in the private sector.” No doubt Honadel’s “opportunity in the private sector” will either involve lobbying or working for a company associated with mining (Caterpillar, anyone?), because what better time to fatten his pockets now that he’s seen his “signature” mining legislation passed into law?
Shortly after Rep. Honadel’s announcements, Oak Creek Mayor Steve Scaffidi announced he’ll be running as a Republican in the special election to fill the seat currently occupied by Honadel. Scaffidi indicated he’d also continue as Mayor of Oak Creek, because after all – the only thing better than drawing pay and benefits from one taxpayer-funded elected position is drawing pay and benefits from two taxpayer-funded elected positions!
The fix is in for Scaffidi. Mark Belling took a minute or so today to mention that County Supervisor Steve Taylor was a possible Republican candidate, then proceeded to call him a “weakling” a “sellout” and, of course, a “RINO.”
Of course Scaffidi is the hand-picked Republican candidate; it wasn’t an accident that he knew what Honadel was doing ahead of time.
