Here’s a few highlights from the made-for-TV health care summit held at the White House yesterday:
For my money, the highlight of the health care summit were the comments made by Democratic Congresswoman Louise Slaughter of New York:
Following the summit, Sen. Russ Feingold issued a statement on the summit itself and health insurance reform:
“I am pleased this White House summit was held and televised out in the open where it belongs. Fixing our health insurance system remains as important as ever because we have a broken system that has put health insurance companies ahead of Wisconsin families and small businesses for too long. Wellpoint, the state’s biggest individual policy health insurance provider, is reportedly raising rates for thousands of Wisconsinites by over 17 percent. Last year, as 14,000 Americans lost their health insurance coverage each day, Wellpoint nearly doubled its profits and raked in $4.7 billion. Washington now needs to find the courage to take on the special interests and act, because if it doesn’t, insurance premiums will continue to skyrocket and Americans will continue to be denied or dropped from coverage because of pre-existing conditions or because they change jobs. After listening to the people of Wisconsin, it is clear that they want action and need reform that provides choice and lower costs for them and more competition and accountability for insurance companies. Wisconsin taxpayers and small businesses simply can’t afford the excessive premiums and higher out-of-pocket costs that are fueling insurance company profits instead of contributing to high-quality care for Wisconsinites.”
Seems I am the only one reading this stuff.
We conservatives were so happy to see the arrogance and stupidity of the democrat progressives streamed live for all Americans to see. All the sob stories really made them look desperate. Remind me of the story… something about used false teeth? LOL
Louise Slaughter should not speak of things she knows nothing of. She mentioned that Osteoporosis is only a womens disease….. The ignorance of these people. Men commonly suffer from Osteoporosis measured by low bone density and clinical Osteoporosis. See this is why the American people do not want Obama and his socialist crew to pass any version of healthcare reform. They know nothing of healthcare and therefore should absolve themselves of any further involvement. Here is the bottom line for real healthcare reform…. ready…. patient responsibility.
I did not hear any mention of Medicare fraud abuse reform ~56 billion yearly. More than 7x the profits of the top 14 health insurance companies.
Kent – Maybe you shouldn’t be so quick to shoot your mouth off when you yourself can’t even get your facts straight. Louise Slaughter never said Osteoporosis is only a women’s disease, she saids it’s MAINLY a women’s disease (watch the video again)…and it doesn’t take much research to confirm that her statement is correct. Go to NOF.org and you’ll see that women are 4 times more likely to suffer from the disease than men. Arrogance and stupidity? Nothing made the republicans look stupider than actually timing the amount of time each party talked. Think about it…that means he actually went into the meeting with the intent to time everyone. I’m glad he had his priorities straight.
Jill,
I concede she did say “mainly” and then you would be correct. Osteoporosis is very common in men and the discrepancy would be much lower if men were screened as often as women:

I could paste these articles all day long.
As for your remarks on timing the healthcare debate… it sure reinforced the narcissistic nature of Obama when he had more time than all of the republicans! There is no doubt the conference was a win for republicans. Now comes the big push for reconciliation! Good luck, sounds like a smart political move (for us)! LOL
