Could another high court spot be on the horizon?

According to CNN, government sources have indicated the White House has begun discreet preparations for the possibility of a vacancy on the United States Supreme Court in coming months. Speculation on a possible vacancy centers on Justice John Paul Stevens, who will turn 90 in April and is the oldest of the nine-member bench. It has been previously reported Stevens has hired only one law clerk for the October 2010 term, which could be notable given the fact that sitting justices may hire a full complement of four, while retired justices are allowed one.

I’m certainly no legal expert, but I do know that the opportunity to choose another Justice for the United States Supreme Court would certainly present President Barack Obama with an opportunity to bolster the Court’s liberal wing for the foreseeable future.
