Wisconsin’s own Alvin Greene

Republican U.S. Senate candidates Dave Westlake and Ron Johnson had better watch out, because while Democratic U.S. Senate candidate Alvine Green of South Carolina may win the award for most bizarre Senate candidate of 2010, here in Wisconsin Republican U.S. Senate candidate Ernest J. Pagels Jr. may give Greene a run for his money, while in the process giving Westlake and Johnson a run for their money:

While Ernest Pagels Jr. may be a dark horse candidate in the Republican U.S. Senate race, his campaign message is simple: outlawing homosexuality, abortion, and all forms of pornography, and that’s a message that’s sure to resonate with some far-right conservatives.

However, while some (including yours truly) may not take Ernest Pagels Jr. seriously, at least he’s running one TV ad, which is one more TV ad than Dave Westlake has run.

  1. OMG Zach, where did you find this guy? He is speaking like he has a mouth full of marbles! Ernest JR? What in the world??? Since he has a TV ad I think he loses 1st place in most bizzare, but he’s certainly a close 2nd.

  2. I live in Cedar Falls, Iowa, and I hope Alvin Greene wins in November. Almost everybody in the media seems to think it’s very sophisticated to make fun of a working-class black man, but I’m for the underdog.

So, Greene had the nickname “Turtle,” because he was an introvert. Introverts contribute a lot to science and invention, unlike the garrulous glamour-persons that appear on television as role models for airheads.

In Aesop’s fables, a turtle beats a rabbit in a race, and in one of Zeno’s paradoxes, Achilles can never catch up with the turtle, if the latter has a head start.

  3. I’ve never heard of Ernest Pagels, but I’ve read books by Elaine Pagels, such as, “The Gnostic Gospels.” She’s a professor of religion at some university, and really knows her subject.

  4. I don’t see how someone so anti-freedom (pro-business unless it doesn’t match their theocratic standards?) could seriously think they stand up for freedom and justice. It’s just weird. Such a total assault on equality and justice is so alarming.

If people elect people like this guy it’s more of a threat to freedom in this country than any terrorist. People like this must be fought with votes, and the fact that parts of the Republican base actually DO embrace these theocratic anti-freedom anti-justice roles is why I won’t vote Republican, even if most aren’t as extreme as this guy.

    1. Oh relax bofcudahy. “If people elect people like this guy” — no one plans to elect this guy for starters. And you really think he is more of a threat to freedom than people who blow up buildings, planes, commercial centers, and slit peoples throats? Please.

This guy is why you won’t vote Republican? As if Democrats had no fringe candidates of their own. Ever heard of Al Sharpton? You guys have Pelosi, from the most fringe liberal district in the country. The fact that parts of the Democrat base (if there is such a thing) actually DO embrace extreme environmental and socialist viewpoints is why I won’t vote Democrat, even if most aren’t as extreme as that.

  5. By all means, don’t vote for Republicans becaues this guy is crazy.

He is a whole basket lunch short of a picnic.

  6. Actually It looks like the Alvin GREENE of Wisconsin is John Heckenlivley running against Paul Ryan in the first district.
