To call freshman Republican Rep. Allen West a patriot would be a gross understatement. After all, look at the man – he’s scuba diving with an American flag! It doesn’t get much more patriotic than that, does it?
Oh wait….what’s that you say? Scuba diving with the American flag isn’t patriotic, but it might actually violate federal law?
Surely you’re kidding, right? Wait, you’re not?
(b) The flag should never touch anything beneath it, such as the ground, the floor, water, or merchandise.
Considering Allen West is a veteran of the U.S. military, I’d expect him to have a basic understanding of proper flag etiquette, not to mention a little more respect for Old Glory.
He’s also violating federal law by performing a military salute while not being in uniform. Technically, even the President isn’t supposed to do that.
His patriotism knows no bounds.
Oh yes such a patriot. He is ex-Army but very quiet on the reason for leaving the military before full retirement. Imagine having the priviledge of living in the district he represents. Too bad he does not feel that he should live in the same district with the rest of us.
I am a former Milwaukee resident and closely follow the activities in Madison and cannot believe what is happening to the Great State of Wisconsin.
He’s quiet on his departure from the Army because he was convicted at court-martial in an incident involving the interrogation of an Afghan detainee while he was a battalion commander. This guy was heading for flag rank if it weren’t for that. I have this crazy pet theory about Al. I think he ran for Congress not just because he’s a self-aggrandizing, egotistical opportunist, but also as a way to thumb his nose at the high brass that kicked him out of the Army. Might be crazy, but we’ve seen crazier.
And yes, Al West is Anthony Wiener. If you don’t think he’s never snapped a pic of his junk, you’re not looking hard enough. He’s that type.
I asked a similar question about Senator McCain during the 2008 campaign when he was autographing American flags on the campaign trail…
if he truly loved America he would be wearing a flag tie!
But hey, Allen West, Lieutenant Colonel, United States Army, Retired, is a “True American Patriot”, right? Hasn’t his distinguished and highly decorated military career earned him a free pass to display the flag however he wants? And yet it was perfectly fine for him to castigate his election opponent over a Flag Code issue. Nice. Do as I say, not as I do.
