Here in Fitzwalkerstan, we know that all acts by Republicans mean lost jobs for the middle class and lost rights for workers. We know that the GOP in this state is beholden to the rich and powerful. And just maybe the GOP here is coming to the realization that they’ve overplayed their hand — they’re acting all innocent now.
Scott Walker, for instance, claims he didn’t know a thing about his top aide Cullen Werwie accepting immunity in the John Doe probe into associates of and donors to Walker’s campaigns. Gee, he claims to be an Eagle Scout! Hyperbole indeed. Paul Ryan, meanwhile, claims the political unrest here in Wisconsin is all about 2012, when every single observor knows it is about the policies of Scott Walker, and also those of Paul Ryan, at least concerning their kowtowing to the rich in this state and in the rest of the country. Paul Ryan certainly won’t face his own constituents, but is happy to prattle on in forums around the country.
Finally, and certainly not least, Robin Vos, so instrumental to the partisan politics in the state that he is thoroughly hated, so much that he must wear a shower cap when he goes out of doors, is trying to boost his image by publicly stroking puppies. Or the equivalent. He’s promising tax relief for adoptive couples. Only his proposal is a sham. Vos is actually proposing, as pointed out by Root River Siren, tax measures already in place and not even threatened. He’s demagoguing it, in other words, trying to look nonpartisan through meaningless legislation — promising people tax credits they already have.
These guys are inept, and will not be able to rehabilitate their images so easily. But I expect to see more such insanity from them in the near term. We are not fooled so easily.
Disclosure: I am an adoptive parent, and know enough of the law firsthand to know Root River Siren is spot on, and that Vos is merely demagoguing. A pity the Racine Journal Times doesn’t have the sense to call the man out on this issue.
Do we know for a fact, I mean beyond his word for it, that he did, actually, attain the status of Eagle Scout?
Good question, Jim, but probably too easy to research for him to lie about it.
