Teabagger favorite Barbara Espinosa of the radio show “Hair on Fire” called President Barack Obama the nation’s first “monkey president.” While speaking with a caller who called the president “Rabbit Ears” she responded, “I call him a monkey. I don’t believe in calling him the first Black president, I call him the first monkey president.”
Scurrying to justify what she wrote, Espinosa has now stating that calling the president a monkey was a compliment because monkeys are quite intelligent.
She also cut and pasted a bit from Wikipedia about the evolution of monkeys, into her blog, I’m guessing in an effort to turn the table on those elitists who, you know, believe the theory of evolution to be the best explanation for change in species (not a teabagger favorite). Forgetting for a moment that means she’s a monkey as well.
She also has said she got the monkey comparison from an email and didn’t at first recognize its import.
Sound familiar? Local right-wing teabagger Fred Dooley, owner of the blog Real Debate, also explained away his watermelon and fried chicken gaffe by stating he was under the influence of anesthetics.
When all else fails, it was somebody else’s fault.
Yes, no matter how much people say they are without prejudice, one can only see gaffs like Espinosa’s as signs of a really wounded ego status. I saw it initiated by the achievement of Irish blooded JFK. It has reached the epitome of shame for a majority of white Americans due to the victories of Obama. Does no one recognize their place anymore?
No one is without prejudice of some sort. I even find myself with unsavory thoughts, brought about by what I heard and learned as a child. The best anyone can do is not act on those impulses, remember the triggers and make sure to teach your children. Someday, perhaps, the triggers of resentment, bitterness, loathing, etc. will find themselves in the trashbin of history.
One can hope.
I’d say I’m stunned but I’m not. It’s become increasingly clear that for many conservatives the main problem with President Obama has more to do with his skin color than his politics.
Those that remember a bit of history would call this AstroTurf-Outrage.
Hi Nemo: Huge difference. Both insulting but far more to African-Americans. I really shouldn’t have to explain why.
