If you’re Republican U.S. Senate candidate “Tea Party” Tommy Thompson and you’ve got plummeting poll numbers, what do you do?

Why, you blame Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney, of course!

It’s worth noting that the poll that has Thompson down by nine points to Democratic candidate Tammy Baldwin is the latest Marquette University poll, and that’s the same pollster that correctly predicted Scott Walker would prevail over Tom Barrett in the gubernatorial election in 2010 and the gubernatorial recall election earlier this year.

During an appearance on CNN’s “Erin Burnett OutFront,” John Sununu, the former governor of New Hampshire and a key campaign surrogate for the Romney campaign, said Thompson “sounds like Barack Obama trying to blame it on somebody else.”
