Is it journalism or churnalism?

Earlier today the Sunlight Foundation unveiled its Churnalism tool, which is essentially an open-source plagiarism search engine.

reported by The Atlantic,

[Churnalism] will scan any text (a news article, e.g.) and compare it with a corpus of press releases and Wikipedia entries. If it finds similar language, you’ll get a notification of a detected “churn” and you’ll be able to take a look at the two sources side by side. You can also use it to check Wikipedia entries for information that may have come from corporate press releases.

Here’s a video tutorial explaining how to use the Churnalism tool:

To use Churnalism, simply feed in a link or block of text to the Churnalism site or let the browser extension run in the background to notify you of any matches of text from Churnalism’s cache of documents. These documents include most articles in Wikipedia, press releases from PR Newswire, PR News Web, EurekaAlert!, congressional leadership offices, the White House, a sampling of Fortune 500 companies, prominent philanthropic foundations and much more.
