You can learn more about this very serious issue by visiting the Stop the Traffik website, and for those of you who might think this isn’t a problem that hits close to home, you’re sadly mistaken.

  1. Where will the governor be marching in a Labor day parade ?. Will he be wearing a Buy American Tee Shirt, With a Union Made Label on it ? If not i have a few extra for him

  2. Thank you for posting this, Zach. Sadly, “quite mistaken” is all too prevalent an occurrence. And unconscionably, “quite mistaken” takes the form of willful ignorance. If you recall, when this subject was last raised, the efforts to deny the validity of government operations to combat human trafficking that were expressed here in the comment thread were not only pitiful but immorally craven – undertaken solely to maintain unjustifiable opposition to government surveillance.

I’ll point out, again, that these arrests and ongoing investigations into the trafficking and prostitution of children cannot be and were not achieved without the digital surveillance and statistical methodology so reviled by the Greenwald-Snowden Wingnuttery Squad.

I think I posted the following link once before – it’s a 2009 summary of the government’s efforts to combat crimes against children. Pivotal in those efforts are the very activities the Anti-Government Loon Patrol would have this nation abandon.

    1. Yeah, and what’s most disconcerting about this issue is that it hits very close to home. Milwaukee is considered to be a national hub for human trafficking, and the number of arrests/convictions that we’ve seen in the Milwaukee area for sex trafficking/pimping bear that out.

    2. PJ,

      1. I don’t have the patience to wait for your OIG pdf to open. Can you tell me what it says and how it pertains to your claims?

1.1 Why can’t you find a link from a reporter?

1.2 Why is the only supportive link from the government?

      2. I’m looking for a link that shows all the child trafficking busts before Snowden and all those after.

      3. DEA’s been sharing their surveillance since 1994.

      http://www.mainjustice.com/2013/08/27/democratic-lawmakers-question-holder-about-deas-secret-surveillance-program/

Given how pervasive the government’s surveillance has been how is that there are any child traffickers anywhere?

      4. It looks to me as though they sacrificed all those children for decades. They didn’t want to risk show their hand. They wouldn’t even allow law enforcement to run a parallel investigation to gather admissible evidence. You down with that?

      5. In reality, the only reason these paltry Public Relations raids are taking place is BECAUSE of Snowden’s leaks. Snowden and Greenwald are heroes and without them even this wouldn’t be happening.

      6. You stop child trafficking at the source of the SUPPLY. The majority of these kids are running away from families that are in crisis, or are homeless, or both.

      7. When both political parties get serious about this, another smart action is to decriminalize sex between consulting adults. Zoning should be part of it too, but law enforcement should be reserving its resources to protect the CHILDREN.

For those interested in the rights of sex workers, @melissagira is imho a must follow.

      1. Sorry, John. I won’t indulge irrationalist nonsense. Feel free to inundate the thread with as much of it as you choose. Your fatuous blather speaks for itself. You don’t know what you’re talking about. Objective reality is the base line. When you post a serious response I’ll offer a serious retort, and from there a serious discussion may ensue. Until then, you are simply a waste of time, time better spent elsewhere.

        1. Shorter PJ: “I’m takin’ my ball and goin’ home. I called Organizing for INaction https://my.barackobama.com/page/s/organizing-for-action

and they told me they’d get back to me with some talking points in the next few weeks.”

          PJ,

While OFA’s at it, ask them about Dozier and Apuzzo, the two AP reporters who quote numerous of UNNAMED government sources giving away our capabilities and probably

“AP sources: Intelligence on weapons no ‘slam dunk'”

          http://m.apnews.com/ap/db_289563/contentdetail.htm?contentguid=ZHzwo2p8

Leaking’s fine when the Executive Branch does it. That’s how Scooter Libby and Dick Cheney lied us into Iraq. They intentionally leaked FALSE information about WMD’s. Since the New York Times let Judy Miller quote Scooter as an un-named source, everyone thought her reporting was legit.

But, when Snowden exposes them, suddenly he’s a traitor.

Explain to OFA that it’s not just Snowden. There’s tons of reporting out there that isn’t coming from his “profile in courage.”

Ask OFA to explain how Western intelligence services knew so much about the Chemical Weapons attack, but did nothing to warn anyone?

Ask OFA if Obama’s going to bomb Great Britain, because they sold the gas to Syria.

Revealed: UK Government let British company export nerve gas chemicals to Syria

“UK accused of ‘breath-taking laxity’ over export licence for potassium fluoride and sodium fluoride”

          http://www.independent.co.uk/news/uk/politics/revealed-uk-government-let-british-company-export-nerve-gas-chemicals-to-syria-8793642.html

Ask OFA why Michael Ventura and all the other reporters mentioned in the Economist’s reporting below AREN’T being waterboarded at GITMO right now? They have had anonymous sources since June that confirmed we spend $56 billion/year on surveillance.

“Letters at 3AM: The Patriot Edward Snowden
Edward Snowden is the American equivalent of the man who stood in front of that tank in Tiananmen Square”
          http://www.austinchronicle.com/columns/2013-06-28/letters-at-3am-the-patriot-edward-snowden/

Tell the OFA for me, I appreciate you leaving Chelsea Manning alone, at least so far. She’s another hero.

Our best defense against the very real threat of terrorism is a free and open society. Americans have to feel as though they can go to the authorities with concerns, and not be on the next plane to Gitmo.

  3. John, I have a question about point number 6. Can you provide some evidence to back up your claim regarding your assertion that a majority of children involved in human trafficking come from families in crisis or are homeless?

Further, while you say you stop child trafficking at the source of the SUPPLY, most experts agree that DEMAND needs to be addressed as well.

Here’s a great link worth checking out:

    LINK 1

    1. Zach, I had nothing and you understated the value of your link. Thanks.

You’re absolutely correct about DEMAND and I was seriously remiss in leaving that out.

AFAIK, the government has at least the technical ability to match Social Security numbers of every child born in the U.S. in the last eighteen years without those in school. There might understandably be enormous civil rights issues with such a query, I really haven’t thought those through, but it might give us an idea of the magnitude of the problem. Younger kids who were “lost” would obviously be a higher priority.

My fear is that our failed economic policies, high tolerance for income inequality, and poverty are destroying the fabric of society. Wade Page, the Temple Massacre shooter was involved with white supremacy. That’s a huge problem in Greece where youth unemployment is out of control.

Deeply appreciate you calling attention to the issue.

      Matthew 18: 5-6

“Whoever receives one such child in my name receives me, but whoever causes one of these little ones who believe in me to sin, it would be better for him to have a great millstone fastened around his neck and to be drowned in the depth of the sea.”
