Dan Bohrod to run for State Treasurer

From my email inbox comes news that Dan Bohrod, a Budget Analyst for the City of Madison, will run for State Treasurer in 2014.

Stressing the need for a “reimagining” of the Constitutional Office of State Treasurer rather than its elimination, municipal budget analyst Dan Bohrod today announced that he will seek the Office of Wisconsin State Treasurer.

Bohrod, 55, declared that he will run as a Democrat in the November, 2014 election.

Bohrod says he’ll use his fiscal management and policy skills and 27 years in municipal and State government as a resource to help the public navigate the often mystifying State budget process and help provide education about important state fiscal issues. “The Wisconsin Constitution provides the State Treasurer with the same Constitutional authority as the Attorney General. However, the Legislature has chosen to endow the Office with little authority, essentially silencing a voice of the people as regards State financial matters,” said Bohrod.

“There are growing calls to eliminate the Office of State Treasurer, but I believe we can do better. We can, and should, ‘repurpose’ the Office to restore its original Constitutional intent to provide an independent resource on State budget and financial matters, an independent voice that can help advise the public and elected officials about issues that affect taxpayers.”

Bohrod is currently a budget analyst for the City of Madison and former policy analyst for the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction and the Department of Corrections. Additionally, he spent several years in investment operations for the State Investment Board.

“I’ve worked on public budget and financial issues for nearly three decades,” said Bohrod, “and I hope to use this experience to help shape the public discourse regarding the use of taxpayer funds.”

Dan Bohrod is not the only Democrat running for State Treasurer, as Brandon White of Madison has also declared his intention to run.
