We elected a new Wisconsin State Supreme Court Justice on April 7, 2020. Why isn’t that new justice being added to the court until August 1, 2020? Archaic rule? Constitutional instruction? Leftover from the days when courts didn’t meet 12 months a year? Because it takes that long to ride your horse to Madison from Rhinelander?

WI Supreme Court Question For Our Policy Wonks:
Ed Heinzelman June 2, 2020
It’s constitutional. Terms of newly-elected justices begin on August 1st.
thank you. given that it’s the 21st C, that might actually be something worth changing to a more reasonable and shorter time frame.
