State Appeals Court Judge Lisa Neubauer on Wednesday conceded the race for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court to her colleague Brian Hagedorn.  The concession comes more than a week after an election during which Neubauer trailed Hagedorn by about 6,000 votes and concludes a bitter competition for the 10-year…

In Wisconsin, recounts very seldom change the outcome, but I expect we will see a recount here (despite the fact that Judge Hagedorn has declared victory): In the meantime, Judge Neubaur is preparing for the recount per an email from her campaign this morning.

With the current state laws around property tax freezes…school districts must get permission to exceed those limits by putting referendums (referenda?) on their local ballots. And they are some of the taxing authorities that love these low turnout odd year elections…because they can rouse supporters to vote…hopefully…and get the referendum…

Certainly I’ve railed against odd year spring elections more than a few times and some of you are probably rolling your eyes now…but after having 6% turnout in the February primary this year…we may only have low 20% turnout on Tuesday in the spring general election. A waste of money…

I still think odd year spring elections should be eliminated and moved to even years to increase voter participation and reduce costs for municipalities…but I don’t run the show so we are voting Tuesday anyway! Not sure who’s on the ballot? CHECK HERE! But my picks based on my ballot!…

Local school boards should be the perfect demonstration of grass roots politics. Local people who are concerned about children…who are concerned about education…who are in tune with the local community.
