Walker spokesman Cullen Werwie receives immunity in John Doe investigation
“We don’t know what exactly is involved,” Walker told the Associated
Press on Friday [September 16], when asked at an unrelated event in Milwaukee. He also added: “Until we know, obviously it’s a concern but again, I don’t know any more details than what I’ve seen reported in the media outlets around the state.”
Gov. Scott Walker’s chief spokesman has been granted immunity in the ongoing John Doe investigation of the governor’s current and former aides, it was learned Friday.Former Appeals Court Judge Neal Nettesheim, who is overseeing the secret criminal probe, said he had granted immunity to three people, including Cullen Werwie, spokesman for Walker, in this part of the case. Records show he was granted immunity April 14.
Last year, Werwie joined Walker’s campaign after the September primary and stayed on when Walker took office in January. He earns $61,000 per year.
This is really getting interesting.

I wonder if werwie has been wearing a wire the last few months like bud fox.
Before anyone says anything, I don’t think we should jump to conclusions about this that he might be saying something or cooperating with the investigation or ratting them out. He could be pleading the 5th to the Grand Jury.
You’re right on jumping to conclusions. I won’t get excited until/if some charges are filed.
But T, that’s exactly why you grant someone immunity: so they can’t plead the 5th. And that’s what makes it intriguing.
I’m not jumping to conclusions; I’m simply noting that it’s extremely hard to believe that Gov. Walker had absolutely no knowledge of the fact that his spokesman had been granted prosecutorial immunity in an ongoing John Doe investigation.
Sorry – didn’t mean to imply that you were. Just speaking in general. Main thesis = “intriguing”.
Once you’ve been given immunity you can’t plead the fifth. It’s called “Contempt of Court” and you sit in jail until you testify or the John Doe probe ends.
Love that name. Sounds like something Elmer Fudd would say.
