Obey involved in House floor shouting/shoving match?

Politico is reporting Rep. Dave Obey and Rep. Maxine Waters may have been involved in a shouting match on the floor of the House that ended with Rep. Waters “shoving” Rep. Obey:

House Appropriations Committee Chairman David Obey (D-Wisc.) and Rep. Maxine Waters (D-Calif.) engaged in a late afternoon shouting match on the House floor after Obey reportedly rebuffed Waters on a $1 million earmark request, aides and witnesses said.

Witnesses, speaking on condition of anonymity, said it appeared that Waters pushed or shoved Obey.

The pair were seen shouting at each other and had to be separated by members — who were gathered on the floor casting final votes before heading off to a party at the White House.

Rep. Obey’s known for having a bit of a temper, so the shouting match isn’t surprising, but I’m a bit taken aback that two members of the House of Representatives – and members from the same party, for that matter – would get into a physical altercation. If Rep. Waters did in fact shove Rep. Obey without provocation, then she deserves to be held accountable, and if Rep. Obey physically engaged Rep. Waters, then the same holds true.

It’s sad to see our government has degenerated into a shouting match between two Congressman, akin to a schoolyard scrap.
