Malkin pulls a ‘Coulter’

Hawking her new book, A Culture of Corruption, Michelle Malkin is interviewed by Matt Lauer and, without knowing it, throws herself under the bus.

After watching the video, how can anyone take Malkin as anything but deranged? She has done to herself what Ann Coulter did. She has likely crossed the line of what is acceptable to conservative Republicans. I think we will begin to see less of her (after her book tour is done) as conservatives begin to put distance between Malkin and themsleves.

  1. I didn’t see a derange person. She has her opinions…some of which have some validity…in my opinion. Is she overly dramatic at times??? Probably. But…deranged?? Nope.

What Obama said about Sgt. Crowley and the Cambridge Police Department was wrong. He should have apologized…but he really couldn’t bring himself to admit it and say those words…but yet he has been around the world apologizing on behalf of Americans. That’s wrong. He should stop apologizing for Americans and only apologize for what he does wrong.

I know racism exists…but just because a white cop arrested a black man doesn’t mean there is racism in play…and for President Obama to perpetuate that way of thinking was wrong. Does anyone understand…besides cops…how difficult it is to “serve and protect” when you have to worry about a false accusation of racial profiling?? And…then…to have the President of the United States call you out like that…talk about pressure. Kudos to Sgt. Crowley and his fellow coppers who stood by him and didn’t back down.

I listened to President Obama’s recent speech…the one he gave to the NAACP…and he really did give me *hope*…but after listening to his comments about Sgt. Crowley, racial profiling, and the Cambridge Police Department (or police in general) all my *hopes* were dashed. He is inadequate and is incapable of bringing people together on this issue (and I fear on any other issue)…and that is a tremendous let down for me personally. I’m ready for 2012 and a new President.

  2. The deranged bit was her comment about Lindsey Graham. He is well-liked and has many powerful friends among conservative Republicans. It’s one thing for Wonkette to ridicule Graham’s devotion to John McCain; it’s quite another for a self-identified conservative pundit to dismiss him as a panderer to diversity.

  3. I think Malkin’s accusation of Obama as a ‘racial opportunist’ and seeking ‘racial authenticity’ is deranged. Do people think that he is an African-American? He isn’t. Not even close. Her characterization of the story as a local parochial law enforcement story denies the decades long relationship that Obama had with Gates. She dissembles.
We have the Reader’s Digest apologizing for a golfing joke because it offends anti-domestic violence groups and then Michelle Malkin calls the President a ‘racial opportunist’ and that’s okay?
And Michelle’s characterization of the First Lady as First Crony is way over the top. Does everyone accept that there is truth to this? Since when is it acceptable to target the First Lady in so flagrant and despicable a fashion?
Please explain your focus on Lindsey Graham as worthy of a Michelle-is-deranged characteristic but the racial accusations of our President are not?

    1. It may be dishonest and immoral for Malkin to make those statements about the President and First Lady, but it is not deranged. She is deliberately appealing to the Obama-haters, whom she hopes will buy her book. It is a rational strategy on her part. The remark about Graham is deranged because she is trying to appeal to her base by attacking someone who has strong connections with her base. She is either too ignorant to know that or too arrogant to believe it matters. Either way, she has damaged her standing and influence among the wingnuts. Since her career depends on having the good will of the wingnuts, and she has shown herself to be a brazen opportunist, it is deranged for her to risk her career in that way.

  4. First point…President Obama is a politician…people are suppose to critique him and his policies and what he does.

Second point….Domestic Abuse victims are victims…and there is nothing funny about someone being a victim and people aren’t suppose to make fun (or light) of victims.

    1. Whoa! Calling the President of the United States (not a politician) a ‘racial opportunist’ is inflammatory at least and at worst a libelous defamation of character. Jokes about fictitious events are wrong but character attacks towards living and breathing people are acceptable?
This is an immoral position to take. Do you wish to defend your point?

  5. When President Obama brought race and racial profiling into the mix regarding Gates and Crowley he became a “racial opportunist” in many people’s eyes…one of a few incidents I can think of where he does come across like someone who uses his race to gain political points. To point this character flaw out is not “libelous defamation of character”…nor is it inflammatory.

However…going on national TV and suggesting to the whole country that Sgt. Crowley and the Cambridge Police Department was involved in some sort of racial profiling and “acted stupidly” when they arrested Professor Gates for D/C is inflammatory…and defamatory…and possibly slanderous.

In regards to Michelle Obama…if Michelle Obama is actively involved in policy making and is out there making political speeches she is fair game…but if she’s not politically active then everyone should leave her alone…IMO. But…just like some on the left didn’t leave Laura Bush alone some on the right won’t leave Michelle Obama alone.

About Malkin calling Graham out…it seems like there are a growing number of people on the right who are intolerant of moderates. Maybe Malkin is one of those people.

    1. Do you think that “The One” needed an opportunity to promote himself? Or perhaps to promote black people? What purpose could Obama have in grasping this opportunity to promote racial anything?

His very presence as a mixed race man with black skin as President of the United States of America is promotion enough regarding race and opportunity.

I think that the phrase ‘racial opportunist’ implies that there may be a Presidential backlash effort against ‘whitey’. And I think Michelle Malkin deliberately chose those words to stoke the coals of fear in some people.

President Obama was clearly upset over the incident and lost his composure. He should never have commented on the issue. His friendship overruled his head in this case. But Malkin’s allegations that the press event was planned is ludicrous on the face of it.

When POTUS is castigated for using the word ‘stupidly’ and Malkin is given a pass for calling POTUS a ‘racial opportunist’, our society is setting incomprehensible standards in its public discourse.

In any event, all parties to the kerfuffle appear to have resolved their public issues, except, perhaps, Malkin.
I understand why she was not invited to join them for a beer. She racially profiled the President.

  6. Actually, anyone familiar with Malkin’s “writings” would know that her comments on Today were quite mild in comparison. It’s not for nothing that Andrew Sullivan has “Malkin Award” nominees for deranged political writing.
