Sessions is a poser

Sen. Sessions is a poser in my opinion. He clearly came into the Sotomayor hearing not to learn, but to accuse and indict. What do you think?

And what about all those “Wise Latina ” queries from other Senators? I was under the impression their intent was to demonstrate how they were personally aggrieved by her comment. Almost as if they wanted her to apologize and to kiss their rings…

  1. Two Wrongs do not make a Right. There is high theater in Sessions’ comments and regardless of how many others have done it, it is still wrong.
I supported John Roberts but not Bork or Alito because at a visceral level I do not like them. I like John Roberts and his qualifications but I disagree on some of his votes. I am sure there are others at this blog that would challenge me on Roberts.

  2. The point isn’t whether anybody here likes the Justice/Nominee but how they are treated during their confirmation hearings. It’s called being “Borked” for a reason. Crying foul because your guy is getting the tough questions and adding the snarky ring kissing comment is hypocrisy at it’s finest. Sonia’s treatment by the pubbies so far has been nothing short of cordial compared to the treatment the dems gave to any conservative leaning justice since Bork.

    1. Show me the hypocrisy, please. You presume that I have been because I am blogging here and you have stereotyped me. I accept challenges to what I write; however, I request that you not presume anything prior to my arrival.
I was not writing a comparison of confirmation hearings but commenting on the theatrics of Sen. Sessions questioning. His theatrics continued afterward as he was interviewed by the networks. The Democratic Party has already created a video of John Roberts’ and Alito’s evasiveness during their confirmation hearing to counter comments by Sen. Sessions on Sotomayor. And the world turns.
I am open to hearing your defense of Sen. Sessions and his questioning of Sotomayor if you have one

  3. Shall I create a video of Sonia’s evasiveness during this confirmation? She hasn’t yet answered the questionable wise latina comment that she has made more than once. She has not answered the questions about legislating from the bench like she has eluded to in the past but just said that she won’t do it while serving. Do I believe she will change her views now that she will be a SCOTUS justice? No…

Maybe hypocrisy was a bit harsh but at least point out Kennedy’s smearing of Bork or the questioning of Alito, regardless of your views of the man. At least mention where this line of question originated and try not complain too much when this type of questioning, that was started by the democrats in the Bork confirmations, hits home… It’s almost a “be carefully what you wish for” moment.

If you don’t want stereotyping, then maybe blogging at a place called Blogging Blue with a Partially Blue handle is the thing for you…..

  4. I like you, silent E. I understand your criticism that I failed to write about Alito, Bork, and Roberts and the Democrats attack upon them in my post about Sen. Sessions being a poser. I also understand that you think that Judge Sonia Sotomayor is being evasive on the Wise Latina comment just like Roberts and Alito were evasive during their confirmation hearings. Today was the end of the hearing and we can move forward knowing that those who were ‘bugged’ by her comments have had their day to express themselves. We will know soon enough if those others who were playing to the crowd will vote for Judge Sotomayor or not. I believe that Sen. Sessions will not but it will be interesting to see if this is a party line vote.

  5. NPR pointed out yesterday that there were no Supreme Court confirmation hearings before television (I assume that the Senate simply voted on the confirmation without hearings). From that we can deduce that the true purpose of such hearings is not to learn about the nominee but to allow certain Senators to grandstand.

    1. Ordinary Jill, all politicians have a healthy amount of ego, so it’s no shock to see them try to maximize their “face time” on TV.

  6. I was listening to POTUS radio today and they were making a point that for lifetime appointments an introduction to the American people and a transparency of the appointee was necessary in our Republic.
