I think his brain is broken…

Dave Westlake loves him some foreign policy, circa 1982. In his latest blog entry, Westlake criticizes President Obama’s decision to hold off on implementing a missile shield in eastern Europe (emphasis mine):

Whether it’s the corrupt antics of ACORN, the President’s cadre of czars, the ongoing—and still unresolved—debate over healthcare reform, or the scrapping of a missile defense shield that leaves some of our strongest allies exposed to their sworn enemies, this week has made it difficult to not be cynical toward Washington’s priorities.

It’s worth noting that prior to Westlake posting his “Week in Review” blog, news had already started to trickle in that Russian President Dmitry Medvedev welcomed the U.S. decision to scrap the missile defense shield in Europe:

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev on Thursday welcomed his US counterpart Barack Obama’s decision to scrap the deployment of a planned missile defense shield in eastern Europe, and described it as a “responsible move”.

“Russia has noted the statement of President Obama about rectifying the approaches of the United States on the issue of anti-missile defense (AMD),”

On the heels of President Obama’s decision to delay deployment of the anti-missile shield to Poland and the Czech Republic, Russia has announced it won’t be deploying new missiles in the Kaliningrad enclave, according to Dmitry Rogozin, Russia’s envoy to NATO.

A European missile shield might have been a great idea at the height of the Cold War, but it’s 2009, not 1981. Someone outta tell Dave Westlake to join the rest of us here in the 21st century, where missile defense shields aren’t necessary.

  1. And now Russia is our best buddy in the world? Russia isn’t supplying Iran with any weapons or technology? Russia has never ever been aggressive in taking over a country by force much less trying to plant their oppressive and socialistic ideology on other nations?
…”where missile defense shields aren’t necessary.” I admit I love some of your ideas, but we are not yet at a Utopian level of society to trust the original “axis of evil”. Just 20 years ago they were still oppressing people in other countries around the world! Lets trust Russia with honoring trade embargoes and helping the war on terror first. Then M A Y B EI can trust them by bringing down my missile defense systems.
