Cheney for president?

Yesterday I wrote about the possibility of former CNN host Lou Dobbs running for president in 2012, and today comes news a group of conservatives are trying to draft former Vice President Dick Cheney to run for president in 2012:

The organization – “Draft Dick Cheney 2012” – launched on Friday, and unveiled their new Web site. Their aim: To convince the former vice president to seek the Republican presidential nomination in the next race for the White House. But there may be a major roadblock to the group’s pitch – Cheney himself.

“The 2012 race for the Republican nomination for President will be about much more then who will be the party’s standard bearer against Barack Obama, the race is about the heart and soul of the GOP,” said Christopher Barron, one of the organizers of the Draft Cheney movement. “There is only one person in our party with the experience, political courage and unwavering commitment to the values that made our party strong – and that person is Dick Cheney.”

Dick Cheney for president in 2012? Yeah, good luck with that!

  1. Who would you like to see run for President in 2012 from the right? I am curious if you would ever support a non-liberal candidate?

    1. Anon, it might shock you, but once upon a time I voted for Tommy Thompson in an election. However, to answer your question about whether I would ever support a non-liberal candidate, I think the answer is no, simply because I don’t think I could vote against my beliefs.

As for who I’d like to see run in 2012 from the right, I’d have to say Mittens Romney, because I think an Obama/Romney race would be tremendously entertaining.

  2. LOL…I can’t believe you voted for Tommy!

Romney might have done a better job with the financial crisis than President Obama…but I don’t know enough about him to say if I would like to see him run. I just know he’s good with finances.

If Obama runs again and he hasn’t improved and if the Reps run one of those teabagging nutjobs I’m going to sit out and not vote in 2012. Of course…that is how I feel today. I will probably change my mind a hundred times before election day. 😉

    1. Anon, I know things aren’t looking too great for Dems in 2010, but I’m betting Obama will have a smooth path to reelection in 2012, especially if the economy continues to improve.

  3. Is the economy improving?? Three years is a long time…we’ll see how it goes. I’m still waiting for him to do something (anything) to ensure equal rights for all people.
