Ron Paul defends WikiLeaks

Rep. Ron Paul might be the only elected official in the nation defending WikiLeaks:

“In a free society we’re supposed to know the truth,” Paul said. “In a society where truth becomes treason, then we’re in big trouble. And now, people who are revealing the truth are getting into trouble for it.”

“This is media, isn’t it? I mean, why don’t we prosecute The New York Times or anybody that releases this?” he added.

While I certainly support government transparency and the free exchange of information, I also believe that WikiLeaks has been somewhat irresponsible in how it has released the information it has received, more specifically as relates to leaving the names of individuals who’ve assisted the U.S. government unredacted in the documents it has released, in many cases putting those individuals in grave danger as a result.

  1. I don’t think I agree with you Zach. I know people have said the leaks have put people in danger but yet everything seems to be business as usual. And then…I have to ask who put these people in danger…was it the leaks or was it their own behavior?? I’m rather disgusted with some of the things I’ve read about the people who are suppose to be representing the US…so…it’s kind of like…who cares if they feel a little embarrassment now? I would just like to know…where are the NORMAL people in this world?? How do these idiots named in the leaks get their positions??

  2. If there were major incidents where people were being killed because of the leaks, I haven’t heard of them… I don’t believe that has happened. On the other hand, these leaks prove that international law was broken by the state department which I think is a top priority of the media in the UNITED STATES. Our media outlets should be working to expose any and all gov’t corruption. They are supposed to be working for the people.

Let the truth be known, however it may come.
