House Republicans targets Special Olympics for funding cuts

Shameful isn’t even a strong enough word to describe this…

The House GOP’s budget, which passed last month, takes a hatchet to programs for disabled kids and Special Olympics athletes. The proposed cuts could force the closure of at least one Special Olympics program, which is funded through the Department of Education. Dubbed Project UNIFY, the program serves more than 750,000 students in 43 states and draws from techniques used in Special Olympics training for activities in public schools.

While grumps over at The Happy Circumstance may think it’s a shameful time to live in America, I simply believe Republicans ought to be ashamed of themselves.

While Republicans are quick to stand up for tax cuts for the wealthiest Americans, they’re equally as quick to kick individuals with special needs to the curb, and that’s just disgusting.

  1. Who even knew Special Olympics were funded by the federal government?! I sure didn’t.

This is the problem with a big government funding anything and everything under the sun. I have nothing against the Special Olympics or kids with special needs. But there are lots of good and worthy things I don’t necessarily find appropriate for the government to fund.

Also your equation with tax cuts makes no sense. The government isn’t giving anyone more money with tax cuts. You are thinking of it backwards. Tax cuts just allow people to keep more of their own money. Government isn’t giving them anything.
