“Guns should not be feared, in fact, shooting can be a fun sport.”
So says Democratic State Senator Lena Taylor, in a statement she issued explaining her support for Wisconsin’s new concealed firearms law. I can’t help but wonder how many of State Sen. Taylor’s constituents – too many of whom are all too familiar with guns, gunshots, and gun violence – would beg to disagree with her assertion about shooting as a “fun sport.”
I’m a northwoods progressive gun owner, but I don’t understand Lena Taylors vote. I won’t carry a concealed gun in public ever. There just isn’t any need for it.
what scares me are the people who are desperate to start carrying.
In Ohio some years ago when the first bill to carry concealed weapons first passed, some newspapers published the names of people who had applied and received a “conceal carry” permit. I noted names in my region but I wished I had sent a letter to each person requesting a picture of themselves so I could identify them for my own safety as I moved through the community. It was before I knew about photoshop but I had considered several uses beyond self-protection.
You know you are not proud or trusting of your government when you are afraid of reprisals from such an action.
