Thermo Fisher closing Two Rivers plant, shipping 200 jobs to Texas

I blame Gov. Scott Walker and Republicans in the legislature…

Starting in early 2012, Thermo Fisher Scientific will shut down its “wood plant,” which makes wooden laboratory furniture and employs about 200 people, company officials said Wednesday.

It’s worth noting that Thermo Fisher Scientific has been one of city where it has been one of the largest employers in Two Rivers for more than a century, but no longer, as those jobs will be shipped to Texas.

Remind me again how the policies of Gov. Walker and Republicans in the legislature were going to create all sorts of new jobs in Wisconsin…

  1. Hate to see this happen anywhere, really. But Two Rivers holds a dear spot in my heart. Some of the nicest people in the world near there…this governor has got to go.

    1. Yeah, this is a sad bit of news, but it just underscores the failure of the policies promoted and enacted by Gov. Walker and his Republican allies.

      1. This company was planning on leaving long before Walker came in. 2008. Fact is, people are willing to work cheaper down in Texas. No ONE state can prosper significantly over another because when workers in one state become desperate for work they will undercut workers in other states which take their jobs for granted. We support companies like this on a daily basis by filling our carts at Walmart.

  2. How many more jobs will Walker chase from the state before we can recall him? On a brighter note, it appears that he will in fact face recall, given the announcement later today.

    1. I forgot, how many jobs did Gov. Doyle bring here? We should have recalled that lousy governor, if that’s the new precedent that you can just recall someone you don’t like. Who needs regular elections?

As for chasing away jobs, you mean like how Democrats are trying to chase away mining jobs right now?
