Isn’t there just a bit of irony apparent when the Republican Party, who just a year or two ago was putting forth legislation to enshrine English as the Official Language, cheered when New Mexico Governor Susana Martinez emphasized several ‘key points’ in her speech at the GOP convention by repeating them in Spanish?
2012 Republican Party Platform:
“We support English as the nation’s official language.”
Wouldn’t it be nice if outrage poured forth and sparked a serious national dialogue on the topic of the necessity for multilingualism in America?
