Chris Christie refused invitation to appear at Romney campaign rally

Ouch bro, that’s gonna leave a mark.

New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, who was effusive in his praise of President Barack Obama when the two leaders toured damage from Hurricane Sandy last week, turned down a request by Mitt Romney to appear with him at a rally on Sunday night in Pennsylvania, The Huffington Post has learned.

Christie’s decision will only add to questions among Republicans about what the governor — who is up for reelection a year from now — is thinking, and why he went out of his way to heap praise on the president, and then refused to appear with Romney.

The Romney rally was held at a farm in Morrisville, Pa., not more than 20 minutes from Trenton, the New Jersey capital. The physical proximity of the event to New Jersey only added to questions in the Romney campaign about why Christie chose not to come.

“You can’t tell me he couldn’t have gone over there for a night rally,” a Romney campaign source told HuffPost.

Keep in mind Chris Christie was chosen by Mitt Romney to give the keynote speech at the 2012 GOP convention, so this is no small snub.

  1. With so many people still suffering in New Jersey it is nice to see a politician who puts the people first over the party. They can call it a snub but he did the right thing. We need more people like him who really care about the people.

  2. Maybe Christie has seen what the current state of partisanship is doing to this nation (as well as paving his path to the future).

He’s also a very, very savvy politician and he’s got balls. He has read the signs, mother nature’s and the country’s.

People are sick of partisan politics and angry with everyone who’s anyone in DC. Even many die hard Republicans just can’t stomach the GOP slate of candidates, the over the top religious teabaggers and the current shapeshifting candidate, Romney. They don’t trust him. They want someone who represents the party the old school way. Conservative, but stable. Fiscal conservative, not someone who slams the middle class but lets his masters run the shop. Someone who represents us, the people, not global corporate entities and oligarchs.

Well, guess who THAT might be in 2016? Christie is taking a step to the center and I say thank goodness. Maybe the rest of the GOP nutbags will get a clue.

I agree with Peter Bishop. With so many people suffering, it is nice to see a politician who puts people first. NJ is still in crisis mode with lack of power, power, fuel, housing, infrastructure and snowy storm fronts on the way. Christie is doing the right thing.

Get off your self important, ivory tower, petty horses and have a reality check Team Romney and GOP.

  3. I think Christie is doing the right thing as governor of a suffering state. It’s right ethically, morally and probably politically in New Jersey. BTW: And I bet as a constituent, Bruce would talk to the governor if he was asked!

  4. Prediction- Look for Bruce to do a NJ/Storm Sandy benefit concert and bring Obama/Christie on stage. ??? Yes? No?

  5. Christie’s stand is hope that integrity can sometimes win out in the Republican Party–despite all the International money, big corporate, finance and oil support, the control of electronic voting machine manufacture, and the threat of homophobic religious fanatics. Christie is a real breath of fresh air, and a blissful sign for the future of both major parties in the United States.

  6. Both the President and the Governor did exactly what they were elected to do in time of crisis. Both faced no-brainer decisions to address the situation directly and expediently. They did and recovery has begun.
