I know I’m a couple of days behind on this, but Aviva Shen of ThinkProgress has a great post up highlighting the sexist coverage of Secretary of State Hillary Clinton’s testimony during a Senate committee hearing on the Benghazi terror attacks last week,
In fact, here’s the Thursday morning cover of the New York Post, which is owned by conservative media tycoon Rupert Murdoch:
I’m willing to bet that if a male Secretary of State had become as outraged as Secretary Clinton did by the line of idiotic and hyper-partisan questioning she subjected to, the New York Post cover story probably would not have included a headline about how afraid of him his spouse must be.
I know this doesn’t play into the FoxNews/Murdoch angle of the story, but what about Whoopi Goldberg and those loveable liberal ladies on The View saying. “The B**** is Back”
I find that WAY more offensive than some of the examples cited in the linked story, such as “Meanwhile, on Fox News, another Murdoch-owned franchise, Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) complained that Hillary got away with ducking questions because ‘she obviously has an adoring media.'” How is that example even sexist? #1, it’s true. #2, the same could be said of our male president.
McCain makes an honest assessment – do you really think anyone from the Bush administration could have gotten away with saying “What does it matter?”? No! But the buffoons of morning TV get away with calling our Secretary of State a “b****”. Disrespectful.
