  1. Whether Cronkite’s sign off was “was” or “is” involved some dispute. In fact it was both as I can attest being of an age to have heard “was” and “is” and as explained at: http://www.poynter.org/latest-news/mediawire/170534/the-fight-over-walter-cronkites-original-signoff/

    Personally, I like “is.”

    Why? It suggests to me that a current bad “is” can be changed to a future good “is.”

    Let’s hope, pray, and work that 2014 “is” a good or happy new year.
