Hurley blogger and former Iron County district attorney Tony Stella has awarded tantrumesque Tom Tiffany his ” Lie of the Week ” designation for poor Tommy’s whiny insistence that the Environmental Protection Agency killed GTac’s always questionable and unlikely open pit iron mine in the Penokee Hills.
Missing from Tiffany’s weepy lamentations is the fact that iron ore prices have plummeted over the last year and show no signs of bouncing back. You can read all about it by scrolling through Stella’s blog ” Stella Report “, which has covered the mine story more thoroughly and accurately than any other source over the last couple of years.

What’s sad is that our state’s journalists couldn’t be bothered to google the price of iron ore when they printed the EPA, “green” DNR, recalcitrant local government/tribal government nonsense direct from the GTac release a few weeks ago. Tiffany can shed crocodile taers comfortable in the knowledge that not one reporter will challenge him.
Any word on potential Democratic Candidates running against Tiffany in 2016? I know the seat is redistricted, but it was a Democratic Seat for over 2 decades prior to 2012.
Indeed, our new “Toxic Tommy” Tiffany deserves every bit of scorn that can be heaped upon him. Careful folks-this is the guy, probably more so than any other, who is re-writing our forest management rules. Despite the thick legalese, I noticed one detail: Timber sales need to cross streams, and of course, our old :green” DNR regulated those stream crossings so as to not foul waterways, cause erosion, etc. Well, with Tiffany’s new rules-and this is but one detail-such stream crossing devices, bridges, etc. will be allowed to remain in place for five years! Are we to surmise then that the timber sales on our state lands are becoming so large that one sale will last five years? That’s the way it looks.
AJ asks the right question-can we get rid of this guy?
