George Washington – Prophet!

It appears that George Washington knew that politicians like Scott Walker would be coming:

“The power under the constitution will always be in the people. It is intrusted for certain defined purposes, and for a certain limited period, to representatives of their own choosing; and, whenever it is executed contrary to their interest, or not agreeable to their wishes, their servants can and undoubtedly will be recalled.” George Washington (letter to Bushrod Washington, Nov. 10, 1787)

Our Founders were brilliant men who risked it all to found our great democracy and understood the importance of “we the people” and it turned into a cause they would have died for.

Now we have a republican party who fights by and for the corporations. The sometimes front runner for he republican presidential nomination comes right out and says "Corporations are People, My Friend!" and is not run out of town on the first train(maybe because they keep cancelling the train, but thats another post).

Then we have our own Scott Walker compares himself to the Founding Fathers. Who thinks of himself as a true leader if only we could get the outside union money out of Wisconsin, yet is quiet about multi billionaires like David Koch telling everyone they are "all in".

Our Founding Fathers would be disgusted by the state of our democracy and politics today. I have no doubt that Thomas Paine, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, etc… would have been standing on the street corner with me gathering signatures to recall Scott Walker/Rebecca Kleefisch and the four senators. The vast majority of our current crop of insanity in politics would have never been allowed in the room while our Founders debated the issues.

We have the benefit of history, to know how the people beholden to power and the corporations and dictatorship like Mitt Romney, Scott Walker, Paul Ryan(Especially Paul Ryan) would have been treated by our Founders.

One of the favourite pastimes of the mob was to tar and feather “obnoxious Tories.” The tar was usually heated before the victim was stripped naked. The hissing tar was poured over the victim’s head, shoulder, chest and back and feathers were placed over the pine tar. The victim was then paraded about the streets in a cart for all the townspeople to see what happens to supporters of the British government.

Another form of torture inflicted on some of the Tories was to force them to ride the rail. This involved placing the “unhappy victim” upon sharp rails with one leg on each side; each rail was carried upon the shoulders of two tall men, with a man on each side to keep the poor wretch straight and fixed in his seat.

Seth Seeley, a Connecticut farmer, who later fled to New Brunswick was brought before a local committee in 1776 and, as punishment for signing a declaration to support the king’s laws was put on a rail carried on men’s shoulders through the streets, put into stocks and besmeared with eggs and was robbed of money for the entertainment of the Company.(6)

Some of the other acts of extreme cruelty used on the Tories by the Patriots were hoisting enemies of liberty up a liberty pole with a dead animal on the pole; forcing a Tory to ride an unsaddled horse with his face to the tail of the horse and his coat turned inside out; sitting Tories on lumps of coal; whipping, cropping ears, placing the enemy in the pillory or stockade. The mob could at times be moved by extremely reactionary impulses and cruel acts.

While I am not advocating a tar and feathering of Paul Ryan(although I could be talked into a stockade and rotten vegetables) but let’s end a few misconception in the media.

1. Recalls of politicians are undemocratic. Nothing could be further from the truth, they are democracy in action.

2. The tea party and their offsprings, just want to go back to the ideals of the Founding Fathers. Nothing could be further from the truth and the “ideals” of the tea party are a complete 180 degrees from what this country was founded on.

3. Corporations are not people and money is NOT speech.
