  1. Harry Reid put Sen. Bernie Sanders in charge of Senate Democrats on the Budget Committee. Sen. Sanders hired the Chair of the Economics Department at University of Missouri at Kansas City, @stephaniekelton, one of the leading lights on Modern Monetary Theory #MMT. Their message resonates with Democrats and Republicans. The federal government does not need taxes to provision itself. “(Federal) Taxes For Revenue Are Obsolete”

The net of that message is that we can dramatically lower federal taxes (payroll tax (FICA), income, and corporate) on the 99%, and increase federal spending on Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid, education, and green infrastructure.

State and local taxes are different. State and local budgets have to balance, just like a family’s.
