Scott Walker wants the state to use most of its share of federal stimulus money for a state sales tax holiday. In the run-up to his gubernatorial campaign, Walker is also calling for a county sales tax holiday, property tax rebates and new business tax breaks, based on the assumption the county might otherwise get as much as $500 million or more in federal stimulus aid. At face value, a sales tax holiday sounds like a great idea, but as the Recess Supervisor points out at Playground Politics, Walker’s idea is both hair-brained and completely implausible.
I hope these kinds of ideas are the best Scott Walker can come up with, because if they are, 2010 will promise to be another bad year for Republicans if Walker ends up as the GOP’s gubernatorial candidate.
