Republican donors charged with poisoning bald eagles

This is absolutely disgusting.

A father and son who operate a large potato farm in northern Wisconsin have agreed to pay $100,000 in restitution in connection with the poisoning deaths of more than 70 wild animals, including at least two bald eagles.

Alvin C. Sowinski, 65, and Paul A. Sowinski, 46, of the Town of Sugar Camp in Oneida County, also face penalties of up to $100,000 each and up to a year in prison at their sentencing in May, according to the U.S. attorney’s office for the western district in Madison.

According to documents filed by prosecutors, Alvin Sowinski used poisoned bait piles to try to kill predators such as coyotes and gray wolves.

There was no evidence that wolves, a federally protected animal at the time of the investigation, were poisoned.

What’s most disgusting about this story is that a video camera set up by law enforcement showed Paul Sowinski finding a dead eagle that had been poisoned on his family’s land and tossing that bald eagle into the brush, only to return later and toss the bald eagle into a burn pile.

It’s worth noting that Alvin and Paul Sowinski (along with their spouses) have donated thousands of dollars to Republican candidates and elected officials over the years, including Rep. Tom Tiffany, former State Rep. Scott Suder, former Gov. Tommy Thompson, and current Gov. Scott Walker (SOURCE).

  1. Nice catch on their history of donating to wingnuts.

Republicans need to get to their roots. “Conserve” is the root of “conservative.”

  2. Typical right wing entitlement mindset at work here thinking they own nature. Let’s hope the penalties force then into selling the land to a more responsible and wiser steward.

    1. Wanna bet they identify themselves as “Family values outdoorsmen?”

This IS today’s GOP- self-absorbed sadists who don’t care what’s left after they’re done with it. Deal with it, you ” independent” TeaBags

  3. The blog title should read “Blogger creates and connects dots where there are none”.
Holy smokes, this is a disgusting WI wildlife story where land owners poisoned many animals and many varieties of animals for selfish gain. $100,000 is getting off easy, they should both go to jail for a long time.
The attempt to imply a political intent is a political stunt and is in a word ludicrous, but more closely resembles a smear.

    1. It simply lifts the veil and exposes these wicked people for what they are. Yes, they happen to be Republicans. BTW: I have a sneaking suspicion you aren’t truly independent.

      1. ig, sorry you’re again individual responsibility.

“If you can’t do the time, don’t do the crime.”

      1. The comment was “but more closely resembles a smear.” (against innocent bystanders who may be of a political party affiliation other than your own)

That story is a completely valid story of disgusting proportions, I was already aware of and glad to see it in type to enlighten others.

“Simply pointing out..” with bold headlines?? Ok, your simply is my over the top.
Whether these law breakers are farmers, school teachers, lay ministers or whatever is unrelated to what in an excellent story to be told.

        moving on…

  4. These staunch Republicans also did lots of repairs on their farm, using Stimulus funds. They hate Obama and “takers” but had no problem taking themselves.

  5. Republicans need to stop with the 24-7 hate. They are literally de-humanizing themselves, and seem all-to eager and willing. It’s really extremely tragic for all of us. We are a society, like it or not, and as long as ‘the well is poisoned’, we all suffer.
