According to an article in the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, handgun purchases in Wisconsin skyrocketed 82% in the days before and after Barack Obama’s election as president compared with the same 13 days in November last year. Now while I can understand why some folks might rush to buy assault rifles with the notion those types of firearms might be subject to increased restriction during an Obama administration, but it’s not assault rifles these folks are rushing to buy:
Tom Smith of Eagle said Friday that he purchased two handguns, a .22-caliber snub nose and a .45-caliber semiautomatic, in the days before the election when it became clear Obama would win.
“I bought them because I was afraid they were going to be outlawed . . . ,” said Smith, who was at the McMiller Sports Center shooting range near Eagle in western Waukesha County.

There is, of course, no evidence that Obama and the Dems want to take away or tax anyone’s guns. But these folks just lost an election, and, as someone once said: “So it’s not surprising then that they get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren’t like them or anti-immigrant sentiment or anti-trade sentiment as a way to explain their frustrations.”
Xoff writes, “. . .no evidence that Obama and the Dems want to take away or tax anyone’s guns.” That’s aside from the policy position on Obama’s official website where it says, specifically, that he wants to bring back the AWB law and make it permanent.
That’s what most of these gun buyers are preparing for. They remember the AWB law and they want to be prepared to weather another one like it.
Bill, I think this is the end result of one thing: Republican efforts to associate Barack Obama with terorrists and as a socialist. It’s scary just how many folks I’ve heard call Obama a “one man terror cell” and compare him to Hitler.
Are any of you willing to bet me $100 that more restrictive gun laws aren’t proposed in the next 4 to 8 years?
Yeah, real scary calling Obama a “one man terror cell” and comparing him to Hitler. No one EVER called George Bush those things, RIGHT?!
forgot, I can’t recall ever reading anything that called GWB a one man terror cell, but then again, I haven’t read everything ever written about the man. Also, it’s worth noting these things have been said about Obama before he even started serving as president, whereas much of what’s been said about GWB came about after he was elected and had started serving.
I won’t deny liberals have been downright nasty towards GWB, but at least we didn’t start before he was even elected.
