Dow drops again, I blame Bush

The Dow dropped again today, finishing below 8,000 for the first time since March 2003. While some folks on the conservative end of the political spectrum have become fond of blaming president-elect Barack Obama for any bad economic news, I blame George W. Bush.

After all, we can only have one president at a time, and until January 20, 2009 George W. Bush is the president, and as President Harry S. Truman was fond of saying, the buck stops with him.

  1. Yeah, this clearly sucks. As of today, my wife and myself have now lost over one-million dollars in the equities market within the past two (2) months.

We’re all in this together, Zach. I am trying to, as my grandpa used to say, “keep my chin up.”

I blame them all. Well, at least I’m honest.

  2. Bruce, at the risk of losing my liberal card, I think Democrats do share some of the blame for what’s happening right now.

However, I don’t think it’s fair to heap blame on Barack Obama for a problem he hasn’t had a chance to address as president, and that was really the point of this entry.

  3. Don’t get me wrong, I agree with you. There’s nowhere to go but up at this point. They should let Bush just leave early 🙂

  4. I long for the day when Presidents aren’t blamed for bad economies and aren’t given credit for good ones. The only way that will happen is if the size and scope of the federal government is reduced enough where it won’t matter who the leader is in these matters.

But I would ask you, what specific policies that Bush enacted can be to blame for our currently bad economy?
