Reid Wilson from TheHill.com is reporting 26 candidates will compete in a March 3 primary for the House seat left vacant after Rahm Emanuel resigned to serve as President Obama’s chief of staff. Among the 26 candidates are fifteen Democrats, six Republicans and five Green Party candidates, and the winners of the March 3 primary will face off in an April 7 general election. The 5th district of Illinois stretches from the Lake Michigan shore to the suburbs around O’Hare Airport, and in 2008 Barack Obama won nearly three in four votes in the district, so it’s likely the Democrat who wins the primary will likely be the next Congressman (or Congresswoman) for the Fifth District.
