Feingold Receives Golden Triangle Award for Fifth Year

Washington, D.C. – Today U.S. Senator Russ Feingold was recognized by the National Farmers Union with the Golden Triangle Award for his outstanding leadership on issues affecting family farmers, ranchers and rural communities. Feingold was selected for the award for his work to address the crisis in the dairy industry, his effort to increase transparency and oversight of commodity markets, his support for renewable fuels, his support for climate change and energy legislation, and his effort to increase competition in the marketplace. This is the fifth time Feingold has received the award.

“I am honored to receive the Golden Triangle award this year from the National Farmers Union, an excellent organization dedicated to advocating for our nation’s farming and ranching communities,” Feingold said. “As a senator from America’s Dairyland, I often hear from farmers and rural Americans of the hardships they are facing during this economic downturn. I will continue to work to support Wisconsin’s farmers and rural communities, which are the foundation to our state.”

“National Farmers Union is proud to present our Golden Triangle award to Senator Feingold for his continued advocacy on behalf of America’s family farmers and ranchers. We thank Senator Feingold for his support of our dairy producers who are being crippled by the crisis in the dairy industry and look forward to working together in the future,” National Farmers Union President Roger Johnson.

The 2009 National Farmers Union Golden Triangle Award is the highest honor given by the organization. The Golden Triangle Award is based on NFU’s symbol – a triangle with “legislation” and “cooperation” forming the sides and “education” the base. The Golden Triangle Awards have been presented annually since 1988.
