Reacting to the news of Milwaukee Mayor Tom Barrett’s candidacy for governor, Scott Walker said, “Tom Barrett is a nice guy, but in the end he’s spent his entire career in the Legislature, in the Congress and now as mayor raising taxes.”
That’s ironic and more than a little hypocritical coming from a guy who’s spent virtually his entire adult life as an elected official, but I suppose we shouldn’t expect anything less than hypocrisy from Scott Walker.
ED. NOTE: Clearly, I misunderstood Scott Walker’s statement as it was written by the MJS. My apologies…no one’s perfect 100% of the time!
Oh…geez…did Mayor Barrett make his announcement?? Darn…I totally forgot all about it today…got busy cooking Sunday dinner…and watching the Favre’s Vikings. 🙂 Oh well…I suppose it will be on the news later. I’m so happy he is running!
Who’s Walker??
Zach – if you set aside your partisan blinders for a second & re-read the sentence you might find a your reading comprehension would improve. The legislature, Congress & mayor part is clearly part of a parenthetical – it’s just a description of his career. He is clearly criticizing Barret for raising taxes his whole career.
“Tom Barrett is a nice guy, but in the end he’s spent his entire career (in the Legislature, in the Congress and now as mayor) raising taxes.”
My comprehension is just fine. Thanks for your concern though!
Zach,
You must have missed the finger parenticals that Walker apparently was holding up when he made his statement.
I must have.
Clearly you did not comprehend it because if you did comprehend it then what part is hyocrtical? Are you saying Walker has also spent his career raising taxes? Please explain.
On Saturday, Walker was already setting the state for a potential campaign issue between the two. “Tom Barrett has spent his entire career, whether it was in the state legislature, whether it was in the Congress, or now as the mayor of Milwaukee, his entire career has been built on raising taxes,” said Walker. “My entire career has been built on fighting taxes.”

“Tom is a good guy,” Walker said. “But Mayor Tom Barrett’s career has been built on raising taxes, and my career has been built on fighting taxes.”

In all fairness Zach, that is a misrepresentation of Walker’s quote. His focus was on the taxes, not the career politician aspect.

Your comprehension is lacking and “forgotmyscreenname” makes a good point. What is hypocritical about Walker’s statement, Zach? Walker clearly criticized Barrett for spending his entire career raising taxes.
Yeah, clearly I missed the mark on this one.
