Recently reelected Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke announced on Monday he won’t seek election as Milwaukee County Executive to replace Scott Walker. In a written statement, Clarke made it clear he wanted to focus his attention on the job he was reelected to do by Milwaukee County’s citizens:
“I am grateful for the trust and support the voters gave me in the election earlier this month, and I want to focus my full attention on improving the quality of life for the people of Milwaukee County,” Clarke said.
Clarke’s announcement that he won’t run for county executive comes on the heels of an announcement by State Rep. Jon Richards that he won’t run for county executive, but there certainly won’t be any shortage of candidates running for county executive.
If I were a betting man, I’d bet on no fewer than seven candidates running for county executive, including State Rep. Jeff Stone of Greendale, Milwaukee County Supervisors Johnny Thomas, John Weishan, and Marina Dimitrijevic, and Franklin Mayor Tom Taylor, not to mention a couple of dark-horse/surprise candidates.
Weishan and Dimitrijevic are not going to run. There are definitely others looking at it that would be just as good.
Marina (Sup. Dimitrijevic) said that she was “seriously thinking about running” at a public meeting just last night. Make of that what you will.
Dimitrijevic is going to run….mark my words.
