Milwaukee County’s veteran of the year

I’m hellaciously proud of Milwaukee County’s Veteran of the Year:

Leon Zalewski of Milwaukee will be honored Thursday night as the Milwaukee County Veteran of the Year.

Zalewski will receive the honor from the Milwaukee County Veterans Board. He joined the Navy in 1951 and served for more than 30 years before he became an inspector with the West Milwaukee Fire Department.

Zalewski is the North Central regional president of the Fleet Reserve Association, a congressionally chartered military and veterans’ service organization.

Zalewski will receive recognition at the Veterans Day Banquet taking place at the War Memorial Center on Thursday.

Zalewski retired as a Chief Warrant Officer 4, having served on active duty in Kuwait during the first Gulf War, and in addition to being a heck of a veteran, he’s also a heck of a husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
