Jeff Stone: really concerned about vote fraud, less concerned about following election laws

This just cracks me up….

Just hours before the deadline for challenges, the Democratic Party of Wisconsin has identified hundreds of invalid signatures submitted by Scott Walker clone and GOP candidate Jeff Stone in the race for Milwaukee County Executive. Of 2,888 submitted signatures, the DPW identified 653, 26% of the total, that were invalid under Wisconsin statutes.

You’ll remember Jeff Stone is the State Rep. who’s so concerned about “rampant” vote fraud that he’s submitted legislation mandating that all voters must present a photo I.D. in order to vote.

  1. Do note that it was the Dem Party that identified them as invalid, not actual election officials.

I’m not sure what the connection is between signatures and voting with an ID. There’s nothing wrong or unusual about turning in extra signatures, knowing that some will be invalidated, due to missing information or what have you.

  2. It is standard operating procedure to turn in additional signatures…and for exactly the reason you’ve stated. But the candidate and his/her volunteers do need to make an effort to garner valid signatures and should double check them before turning them in…including crossing out invalid signatures.

I would like to see the nomination paper laws changed to reduce the number of signatures required to get on the ballot…with this proviso: That the candidate himself needs to collect them all personally!
